Media Research and Media Art

My ongoing media studies research and media practise in the form of media art.

Hāfugao Ema (2022, TBD)

My upcoming media art piece explores my research themes of race, gender and the representation of bodies in media and technology. 

I am working with AI technology to try to stimulate conversations about bias and media representation in the field of virtual bodies. 

The final work is set to be exhibited in this year’s iii media art exhibition hosted by University of Tokyo III/GSII. 

A prototype titled ema was exhibited in July as part of iii exhibition extra.

Arts Management

I provide services for artists who work globally.

Exhibition Support

I oversee collaborations between artists, curators, programmers and institutions to facilitate the realisation of international exhibitions.  I have worked with teams across the US, Europe and Asia.

Writing and Concept

Recent concept text: Art and New Ecology Exhibition – Menstrualverse (2022) by Sputniko!. 

Writing/editing/proof-reading: Kate Vass Gallery article on Sputniko!, TOKION article on NFT art among others.

My personal projects and past work as reporter. 

Web3 Curation (TBD)

My upcoming projects and collaboration considers how Web3 ecosystems and community-building, in particular DAOs, can reimagine new possibilities for artists and curators. 

 

Journalism

I have reported on social issues in Japan, covering topics from race, regional division, homeless and policing, as Special Correspondent for the LA Times.

I have also worked as Assistant Correspondent for the Mainichi Shimbun and interned at the London office of the Guardian.
